Christmas Journey...

St. Martha was filled with angels, shepherds, a real donkey and camel last night for our annual Christmas Journey to Bethlehem. This is one of my favorite nights here at St. Martha. The children are absolutely amazing! I am always impresssed how the grounds of St. Martha are transformed into Bethelehem in just a few hours and by the next morning its all gone! Hats off to all of our parents who worked so hard for a successful night!

I love this school! :)

"What did you see Jesus??"

Today, feeling the way I have for the last couple of days, I knew I would have to adjust my lesson plans for my kindergarteners a bit since it hurt just to talk. So after prayer, I asked them to sit down quietly, put their heads down and in a soft voice I began to speak to them about Jesus and the Nativity. I talked for a bit then I told them that they were to close their eyes and ask Jesus what he saw when he was laying there in the manager. What did you see Jesus? What colors did you see? What did your mommy look like? What did St. Joseph look like? Were there animals there?........you could have heard a pin drop. Normally, my little ones are very vocal as they sit there working on their projects but today it was different......as they began their drawings you would have thought that I was sitting in class alone. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. What a blessing this was today (after such a long week) - confirming to me the reason why I teach at St. Martha Catholic School! Enjo

Please wash your hands!!!!!!....

Wow - what a week!!....this is my first day back since before the Thanksgiving break! I had a wonderful Thanksgiving break - Familytime, Via Colori, etc...then two days before I was to return back it hit me... upper respiratory infection, ear infection, etc. ugh! Ive been down ever since. Please, please, please...wash those hands - this stuff was bad. Went to the doctor immediately but still the cough will not go away :( Anyhow, still working Rodeo Art around here. These kiddos work so hard on this every year! Can't wait to show you - I will be posting pictures as soon as the winners are selected. Also, I have pictures of Via Colori in downtown Houston the weekend before Thanksgiving. We have some pretty amazing talent here in Houston!! I love that festival! I will try to get them up this weekend - Have a great weekend and dont foget to wash those hands!

Via Colori 2010

I will be participating again this year in Via Colori 2010 benefiting the Center for Hearing and Speech. If you are looking for something to do this weekend - come on down to Sam Houston Park to see 250 artists drawing on the streets of downtown Houston! Its a great festival! Hope to see you all there! http://www.houstonviacolori.com/

Here's my finished Nutcracker...

....The kids will love making these!....a bunch of Nutcrackers standing watch over the baby Jesus!! - just hope we can get to them....!

Recycled Nutcrackers...Turkeys

So yesterday, on my day off, I get a text from my daughter...."Mom, I need 3 yards of fabric for tomorrow! Please, go to the fabric store!!" These texts have become very common these days so I just do as she asks and go to the fabric store, besides it is one of my favorite places next to Lowes, Hobby Lobby, etc. :) Standing in line, I see under the counter stacks of the cardboard that the fabric is wrapped around. I tell myself, "dont ask!" (since my husband has already threatened to kick all of my recylables out of the garage!!) but I cant help myself and ask...."what do y'all do with those??" So....I end up walking out of the store with a cart load of cardboard. :) I didnt see cardboard under the counter, I saw nutcrackers stacked on top of each other!! I guess they could be turkeys too....I just hope we finish our Rodeo Art before December....so we can get to our Nutcrackers, otherwise, they sit in the garage until next Christmas!!...uh oh, I might

Take a look at some pretty amazing artists...busy at work!

What is up with the hair!??!?!..

I love it!! Red Ribbon Week at SMCS!!

Celebrating Art!...Hope for the Future

Wow!!....how quickly a month goes by :)

Hello there!!...we're still here...this month has flown by!! for those of you that have been following along for a while, you may have noticed that my posts slow down around this time every year! Well, its not because we disappear - its because we get really busy around this time of year. Currently, we are working on our entries for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo due at Reliant Center on the day we return from Christmas Break..! With Thanksgiving and Christmas, we barely have time to take a break after our parish festival entries were completed. Just a little FYI - This year we are not participating in the Casino Night and preparing projects for the Auction. After talking with Mrs. Lewis, we decided that the golf tournament might be a better time for us to prepare some pretty awesome projects. However, we are still trying to decide if that will work - I will definitely keep you all informed! I will be posting some pictures soon! so come back in the next day or two to see ou

Busy! Busy! Busy!!

We've been busy working on our Parish Festival Art Contest entries -finally turned them in - now waiting for tomorrow to find out the winners. To me, of course, they are all winners!! I love my little art friends :) I hope to see you all at the festival tomorrow. Mass will be at 4:30pm in the church. Last years winners will be attending mass and entering with Father at the beginning of mass with their artwork! I am so excited for them. On a personal note, I will be in the Lawndale Art Center's Dia de los Muertos Retablo Exhibition and Auction. You can find my retablo here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lawndaleartcenter/5079073563/in/set-72157625003863617/ . Lawndale is hosting lots of events for Dia de los Muertos, for more information you can go to their website at http://www.lawndaleartcenter.org/ Next week, we will start working on our Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art entries! Have a great weekend!

I just had to share these with you...they are our new art creatures that live in our classroom this year. I made them this summer out of burned out light bulbs, discarded jewelry pieces, bottle caps, and beads. I don't think I would do this project with my little ones....but maybe an auction workshop this year at Casino Night for middle schoolers? Oh how I miss them!!...we shall see....hope you like them!!

The Red String...

Here is a link to Mrs. Jordy's - http://picasaweb.google.com/smcsart/MrsJordy2ndGradeTheRedString?feat=directlink Mrs. Kaden's - http://picasaweb.google.com/smcsart/MrsKadenS2ndGradeTheRedString?feat=directlink In the book, the red string started in a drawer as a yarn ball. However, in our project, our red line started with the Sacred Heart of Jesus and they were to draw a picture of all the places the red string was spreading His love....
